The vast majority of Ukrainians think Zelenskyy will no longer be a legitimate president as of May 2024, shows latest GLPOR survey.

Last presidential elections in Ukraine took place in May 2019 and saw the election of Volodymyr Zelenskyy. His presidential term was set to last five years, but elections do not take place under martial law and the sitting president remains in office. Zelenskyy, declaring that it is “impossible” to hold elections, refers to the law on martial law. But Ukraine is a parliamentary-presidential republic, and therefore the participation of parliament is required to coordinate such serious decisions. And again, a dead end for Zelensky, because the Ukrainian Parliament can continue to work without holding elections, including under martial law.

GLPOR Team decided to make a special telephone survey among Ukrainians, also known as CATI or computer-assisted telephonic interview. It is a research method where the researcher surveys respondents over the telephone.

Do you think Zelenskyy will be a legitimate president after the May 20, 2024?

According to latest GLPOR survey only 14 % of Ukrainians think Zelenskyy will be a legitimate president after the May 20, 2024, compared to 69 % who think Zelenskyy will no longer be a legitimate president, 8 % don’t mind either way and 9 % don’t know.
